We have a zero tolerance for child abuse and other harm and are committed to acting in students’ best interests and keeping them safe from harm. '
College employees, volunteers and contractors have some reporting obligations when they know or have reasonable grounds to suspect that a student:
- has been abused or otherwise harmed; or
- is at risk of significant harm, for any reason,
The Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 (NSW) defines a child "at risk of significant harm" as a child (aged under 16 years) or young person (aged 16–17 years) who has been or is at risk of being:
- Neglected (physically, psychologically, educationally or medically)
- Physically or sexually abused or ill-treated (including grooming)
- Exposed to domestic (family) violence
- Seriously emotionally or psychologically harmed by a parent or caregiver.
If you know or have reasonable grounds to suspect any of these harms happening at the College, you must report it to the College's Child Safety Officer, Mujgan Berber, via email at mberber@amity.nsw.edu.au. You may also need to report these to external authorities such as the Department of Communities and Justice and the Police.
